Chesterfield is a large historical market town located in the heart of Derbyshire, with a population of a little over 100,000 people. The town is probably best known for its “Crooked Spire” atop the church of Saint Mary and All Saints. This famous landmark was unwittingly conceived due to unseasoned wood being used in its construction. Seemingly, as the timber dried out the enormous weight of the lead covering the spire caused the wooden framework to twist. Located on the Eastern edge of the Pennines, Chesterfield is widely known as the “Gateway to the Peak District” and as such provides a prime urban location for lovers of the great outdoors.

Due to its location, situated on a large coalfield, mining played a huge part in Chesterfield’s modern history with the industry playing an important role in the local economy up until the early 1980s. The decline of the mining sector saw 15,000 local jobs disappear at a difficult time for the area. Manufacturing has always played a very prominent role in the local economy, with numerous large factories providing jobs for generations of local families. Chesterfield currently homes several large multi-national companies, such as drink manufacturers Global Brands, packaging giants Robinsons PLC as well as several major tech and engineering firms. Industrial premises in the town have seen much change over recent years, but redevelopment and established transport links continue to see the local economy thrive.

Chesterfield enjoys an attractive logistical location, sitting between the cities of Sheffield (around 13 miles to the north) and Derby & Nottingham (both around 25 miles to the south). Within touching distance of the M1 motorway, skirting the east of the town, and a railway station sitting on the Midland Main Line and only 2 hours journey from London, transport links in and out of Chesterfield are excellent. Due to the central UK location, several major domestic and international airports are within only an hour’s reach of the town.

Network Space have identified Chesterfield as a prosperous area and have thus invested in several high quality business units, all situated on high class business parks within easy access of the M1 motorway. Major investment in planning and regeneration projects mean that the town of Chesterfield is on the verge of becoming an incredibly attractive location for any up-and-coming business. The major appeal of being selected as one of the towns to home a station on the much anticipated HS2 rail project, is being complemented by major financial investment in the “Chesterfield Waterside” development. Chesterfield will also be home to a HS2 maintenance depot which in itself will provide further vital local employment opportunities.
