History
Established in 1999 networkspace is a joint venture between property developers Langtree Group plc and the national regeneration agency, English Partnerships. Its remit, set by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, was to develop 500,000 sq ft of high quality workspace accommodation for new and expanding companies in the former English coalfield regions in order to support regeneration.
The original remit was achieved within a six-year timeframe and in 2005 the company was given an extended programme target of 200,000 sq ft of additional space over the next two years.
17 networkcentres were created in the original remit providing accommodation for over 250 local entrepreneurial businesses engaged in the manufacturing and services sectors, creating over 1,400 jobs. An additional five networkcentres are in development for the second phase of the programme.
