Network Space Ltd is a joint venture of property developer Langtree and the Homes and Communities Agency. Launched in 1999 by John Prescott to stimulate the regeneration of communities in the former English coalfields regions.
Network Space has now delivered over 735,000 sq ft of workspace and offices across 22 sites.
Network Village is the next phase of Network Space development and will see the delivery of a further 300,000 sq ft of high quality office and workspace, as well as exemplar housing across six Network Village schemes. The Network Village concept has been designed to provide truly sustainable communities within the former Coalfield regions.
Network Villages will incorporate high quality business space and exemplar residential development to encourage better quality local employment opportunities and a range of housing types and mix of tenure to truly benefit the community.
The first Network Village has already received planning permission and will shortly be taking shape in the North East on the former Murton Colliery site. Network space is now seeking five further sites to roll out its Network Village scheme.
In 1999 Network Space started with the initial development target to provide 500,000 sq ft of workspace and office space. This was delivered within six years in partnership with European and Regional Development Agencies, Local Authorities, the Coalfield Communities Campaign and the private sector to create high quality business accommodation for small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
Following this initial success across the first 17 networkcentres the programme was extended in 2005 to include the development of a further five networkcentres and business centres including i2 Mansfield and Keys Business Village, to create another 200,000 sq ft over the next two years. This was complete on target in 2007.
The combination of public and private sector funding, coupled with an experienced development team, proved a highly effective development vehicle through which networkspace can meet the business space needs of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) within the chosen local coalfield communities.
Network Space is now into the third phase of the programme, which was announced in 2007 and will see the delivery of a further 300,000 sq ft of high quality office and workspace, as well as exemplar housing across six Network Village schemes. The Network Village concept is the first of its kind to be undertaken in the UK and has been designed to provide truly sustainable communities across a range of locations.
Network Villages will incorporate high quality business space and exemplar residential development to encourage a varied blend of local employment prospects, diversity in housing choice and open space to truly benefit the community.
